The January transfer window was a huge failure as far as Arsenal fans were concerned, in terms of bringing players to the Emirates, but it now looks likely that a rather significant saving grace will emerge from an otherwise disappointing month in the market, with the latest odds now suggesting that beleaguered Russian Andrei Arshavin will leave the Gunners some time soon in order to return to Russia.
It's no secret that Arshavin, over the past two years, has failed miserably to build on the form that initially saw him win the hearts and minds of the Arsenal fans and players, and he has now seen his form drop so low that he is considered as a back-up for young Chamberlain, inconsistent Gervinho and frustrating Walcott on the wing.
The Russian captain, despite his poor form and bad attitude, can't be happy with this scenario, and with Arsenal chiefs certainly no longer fans of the player, it would seem that the best option for both parties is for the Gunners to offload him for a fair price as soon as they can.
Despite the odds betting pointing towards an Arshavin departure, should he decide not to move now, he may find that he gets a better deal in the summer and has a wider choice of clubs to sign for. But with club football lacking, could the player find that he is no longer seen as an automatic selection for the Russian side, missing out on the chance to play in Euro 2012?
Despite that risk, the greed of modern footballers means that it isn’t impossible to suggest that Arshavin will reject the chance to resurrect his career, instead looking to cash in on a bigger payday at the end of the season
